Location

The city of Irvine is located about 40 miles South of Los Angeles, 70 miles North of San Diego, 5 miles from the Pacific Ocean. The beautiful UC Irvine campus is built upon 1,500 acres of rolling coastal foothills and is home to some 24,000 students.

Irvine has a mild, dry climate, with high/low average March temperatures of 68F/49F (20C/9C).

The 2008 Annual Meeting of the ASL will be held at the Donald Bren Hall (Building 314, DBH on the campus map).

Travel to Irvine

Arrival by Air

Irvine is served by three airports:

The major shared shuttle company in Southern California is Supershuttle, but further options are available, including other shuttle companies, taxi cabs, and public transportation. See here for further information.

Arrival by Car

The UCI Campus is located between the I-405 and the CA-73 freeways.The most direct route is to take the I-405 (either from the North or the South) to the Culver Drive Exit, turn right at the ramp and follow Culver to Campus Drive. Make a right on Campus and go about 1 mile to the UCI campus. Day permit necessary to park on campus can be purchased for $7.00 at one of several parking structures or at one of the booths located at campus entrances.

To go to Bren Hall, make a left uphill onto East Peltason, past the street light, below the footbridge. Bren Hall will be between the parking structure and the University Club, on the right side of the road.

Closest parking to Bren Hall is the Anteater/Engineering Parking Structure (APS on the parking map) on the corner of East Peltason and Anteater Drive.

The rates above are valid on Wednesday, March 26 through Saturday, March 29 and are exclusive of 10% city taxes. The Atrium and the Radisson offer free shuttle service to/from Orange County Airport and UCI.

Contributed Talks

Abstracts of contributed talks submitted by ASL members will be published in The Bulletin of Symbolic Logic if they satisfy the Rules for Abstracts (see the ASL web page). Local and Program Committees

The members of the Program Committee are: M.C. Laskowski (Chair), J. Miller, T. Pitassi, E. Reck, and M. Zeman. The members of the Local Organizing Committee include: A. Antonelli (Chair), P. Eklof, M. Foreman, P. Maddy, K. Wehmeier, and M. Zeman.

 

Social Activities

There will be a Welcome Reception on the evening of Thursday, March 27 at the University Club on the UCI Campus, and a Banquet on Saturday, March 29 at the Newport Beach Marriott Bayview. The cost to participants for the banquet is $30.

 

Local Attractions

Irvine is close to many of Southern California's attractions, including the amusement parks of Disneyland and Legoland; the pristine shores of Newport, Laguna, and Huntington Beach; world-class shopping and entertainment at Fashion Island, the Irvine Spectrum and South Coast Plaza; the quaint setting of Newport Beach's Balboa Island. The Orange County Performing Arts Center is home to the Pacific Symphony, Opera Pacific and the South Coast Repertory Theatre. The Los Angeles Angels play major league baseball in Anaheim, and 25 miles up the 405, in Long Beach, one finds the Aquarium of the Pacific as well as the Queen Mary, moored at the South end of the I-710 freeway. Los Angeles and San Diego are an easy day trip from Irvine.
